Let the field be joyful, and all that is therein: then shall all the trees of the wood rejoice
Finding solace and knowing Jesus can be a challenge, especially in this world that is more chaotic than peaceful. Yet, there exists a world that is beyond the concrete and glass world that we have grown accustomed to. This is what Judith Mackie speaks of in her devotional Biblical texts with nature pictures and precise commentary.
Yes, we are talking about the most profound source of spiritual nourishment out there–outside of God’s presence–nature.
To take a step outside and to immerse oneself in the natural world is powerful. There is potent spirituality spiraling in the wilds, and these are the places that remember the greatness of God most. What else better to appreciate the power of God than to bask in the shadow of ancient mountains? Who knows His mercy better than the long-enduring forests?
The natural world is a wonderful and enlightening way of encountering divinity.
The Power of Faith through Nature
From the awe-inspiring grandeur of the oceans to the delicate intricacies of a flake of snow, nature is a testament to the divine and its all-encompassing presence.

The heavens declare the glory of God, and the firmament showeth his handiwork.
In every blade of grass, every soaring eagle, and every crashing wave, we can glimpse the sheer power of God. The ever-evolving beauty of nature cannot be fully grasped, but it can be appreciated if only some aspect of it. This is because comprehending the totality of nature is a painful affair–and no mortal has the ability to suffer through that and survive the process.
Yet, just by watching scenes of nature–whether in person through a screen or through a static image–one can be touched.
The vibrant glare of the sunset, the singular bloom of a flower, the crystal-clear surface of a stream–these all contribute to a deep knowledge and appreciation for creation.
Experiences like these often lead us down to personal paths of awakening, the moment wherein we fully acknowledge the presence of God and our presence in His grand and vast plan.
Nature reminds us that there is something transcendental in the universe, but it can only be found in the path of Christ.

Meditating Outside and Knowing Jesus
The natural world is a natural (pardon the pun) sanctuary for deep meditation. It provides Christians with a distraction-free place for them to connect and be more intimate with God. The rustling leaves, the gentle breeze, and the distant insects can create a perfect soundscape–still and quiet–to help calm the mind.
This tranquility is extremely beneficial because it helps to immerse oneself in nature. The senses are heightened, and the world feels fuller. Our experiences are more intense and more discernable. The warmth of the sun on the skin, the fragrant smell of petrichor, the sweet birdsong, the crisp air–these are as if felt for the first time. It is in being at the heart of nature that you are born anew.
Through these and more, we begin to perceive the overwhelming presence of God in the natural world. We are awash in awe and wonder, learning how to revere Him in the most natural and primal ways.
While nature reveals the glory of God, it is through Christ that we know God’s love and grace in a more personal way.
As such, it is important–while meditating over nature–that one’s faith through nature begins and ends with Christ.
Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me.
Without him, there is no choice but eternal suffering.
Meditating in nature can be a transformative experience, deepening our faith, cultivating inner peace, and strengthening our connection with God and Christ. By immersing ourselves in the beauty and wonder of the natural world, we can begin to see the divine in all things and experience the profound peace that comes from knowing we are not alone.
